can a severe urinary tract infection cause body aches and swollen lymph nodes under arm pits?

Accepted Answer

No: A urinary tract infection could cause bodyaches, but i doubt it would be responsible for enlarged axillary lymph nodes.  More than likely some other condition is going on to account for these lymph nodes.  Conditions can co-exist together.  Look for something other than UTI to explain the nodes.

Depends: When assessing for lymphadenopathy, the nodes may be  evident on one side only if the condition causing their enlargement is on that side.

can lifting weights cause lymph nodes to swell? i have developed several swollen lymph nodes, 1 in either arm, and 2 small ones on my neck. lifting weights is the only thing different i'm doing. i've had other swollen lymph nodes for months/years?

See a doctor: It is very unlikely but if you have an infected tooth than you need to see a dentist. You must also see a doctor for your swollen lymph nodes.

Accepted Answer

Lymphadenopathy: Lymph nodes swell and fluctuate usually due to the inflammatory reaction of infection. Pain also usually means infection and not cancer. If bacterial in origin, then antibiotics may help. If it persists beyond a month, you should see someone who can evaluate it with a needle aspiration bx or similar diagnostic procedure.

Many: Enlarged lymph nodes often indicate an immune response to a foreign invaders (viral, bacteria etc) and are not specific for any disease.  If persistent , they may indicate the presence of leukemia or lymphoma as well .

i have had swollen lymph nodes in both sides of groin as well as neck and arm pits for several years they do not bother me but i keep finding more .. i dont think my doctor is taking this seriously what could i do?

: You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Wish you good health!

May need biopsy.....: If the lymph nodes are persistent after seeing your doctor and being evaluated for a possible infection and perhaps being treated with a course of antibiotics, a consultation with a breast cancer surgeon may be needed.  Also, a proper breast exam with your doctor, mammogram and ultrasound should be performed if not already.

swollen lymph nodes in arm pits, possibly new one in chest. blood tests reveal high wbc, all other normal. dr suggests lymphodectomy? why?

To rule out lymphoma: Hopefully your tests will only show reactive lymph nodes (normal and fighting infection) but if lymphoma or hodgkin's disease is present, they're highly treatable and best to get started as soon as possible.  Best of luck.
