when i shave after not shaving for 1+ days, red blotches around my mouth (perioral dermatitis?) are revealed. they fade away provided that i keep on shaving. it *seems* that they develop underneath the unshaven whiskers and are not caused by shaving?

: could be an irritant dermatitis secondary to the trauma from the razor. see dermatologist for eval and poss tx. certain shaving creams and proper shaving techniques might help alleviate this problem.

See a dermatologist: Probably this is due to saliva, compulsive licking compulsive rubbing. Stop fooling around and see a skin Dr. Meanwhile use vaseline or Aquaphor at least 10 times a day.

Sensitive skin: It may help to discuss with a physician because a lot of questions come to mind that would help differentiate possible causes.  A common situation is contact sensitivity often to cosmetics or lip products, especially if there are fragrances or plant extracts contained in the products. Try avoiding these and take care to moisturize to promote healing (using frangrance/additive free product).

Find the Cause: You need to see a dentist to determine what is causing the redness to get rid of it.  Also since you don't say if it hurts it is impossible to know what it might be. There are many things that can cause redness like this. See a professinal for hlep.

: It may be an indication of vitamin deficiency. Take multivitamins, available over the counter. Also apply an emollient. If that does not resolve it in 2-3 weeks, it would be prudent to see your doctor.
Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Mederma for scars: Mederma is an over-the-counter medication that is indicated for the use of scar reduction.  It should not be used to treat any other dermatologic conditions.  It would be useful to visit your doctor for assessment of your condition.

Avoid irritants: Perioral dermatitis can cause symptoms for a while in some people.Avoidance of makeup including lipstick, avoiding toothpaste that contains fluoride such as sodium fluoride or monofluorophosphate (MFP), and moisturizers/lotion on the face can help.You may need repeat treatment, but avoid topical steroids because they tend to contribute to the problem (symptoms helped while on it, but then worsen).

yesterday, i developed huge red rash around my mouth. sent picture to derm and he diagnosed it with perioral dermatitis and prescribed elidel. google told me elidel is not approved for this condition. should i not use it?
