Periodic fevers: There are conditions where a fever may occur on a regular basis time wise-called periodic fever syndromes.These are complicated and you should discuss these with the pediatrician.

Fever: Your child may be fighting off a virus or other mild infection. If the fever is over 101, your child is contagious until it stays below 101 for 24 hours. 98.6 is an average body temperature (which means that there is a range of normal temps). If he is acting fine, you can usually just observe and see if he has any other symptoms. A virus will usually run its course in 7-10 days.

Stress response: During any illness a kid may have a stress response that includes the inflow of stress hormones into the blood. Epinephrine & cortisol both tend to elevate blood sugars during the stress period. Any elevation would revert to normal after the stress has subsided.

Delerium: With this symptom i usually suspect high fever, metabolic disorder, drug exposure or toxin, meningitis or encephalitis. If your child is fading in & out of coherent thought, i would have him seen now.

Any other symptoms, such as swollen glands, sores in the mouth, rashes, joint swelling? How high is the fever? Recurrent fevers of unknown origin are sometimes referred to pediatric infectious disease specialists.
