Vascular: This could be vascular in nature (especially veins).  It is very common in women of your age.  Find a vascular doctor (surgeon or vascular and interventional radiologist).

Ultimately the only way to correct the hammertoe is with surgery although this may not be necessary if symptoms can be relieved and function can be maintained conservatively. Proper foot support and orthotics may slow progression of deformity.

Not advisable: Immediately. You would want to wait until you are at minimum out of the post op shoe and bandages are off the feet. Individual wrapping of toes would be okay.
You must consider the foot needs to operate quickly for sudden stops etc. if you are in an accident and your in a post op shoe , I would imagine your liability would increase.

Depends: This depends on the severity and flexibility of the hammertoe and any other joint contractures. Examples include: simple transecting of a tendon on the underside of the toe, cutting of bone to resect a portion of the contracted joint to reduce the deformity with possible creation of a surgical fusion. Other procedures may be required to address other joint contractures. Pins may be needed.

It depends: Depends on the type of procedure and which foot it was performed on.  Discuss it with your surgeon.  They will be able to tell you when you are ready.

Which procedure is used is by physician choice.
