Muscle spasm: This may be a mineral or vitamin deficiency or side effect of some medication or nutritional deficiency.  You need to see your doctor to sort this out and help you.

Over use?: Charlie horse or cramp would be a reaction to too much Lactic Acid built up in muscle, and can be a reaction to over use. The swelling I am not sure about, so a visit to your md is advisable.

Many causes: if nothing changed in daily life- no new work outs, not pregnant- then often it is mineral shortage.  Get some calcium, potassium in a system.  Get multivitamins, eat a banana, drink milk, cheese.

can charley horse happen in front of leg instead of calf? got spasm in front lower leg from below knee to foot. very painful like the usual spasm but this was in front of leg instead of back calf. not sure what caused?

: When you exceed the endurance capabilities of a muscle, it locks up in order to protect itself from tearing. (otherwise, continued use would cause the tear.) this type of spasm or cramp is known as a charlie horse. They can occur in any muscle that you exceed that muscle's endurance limit.

Possibly: Could be result of nicotine but sounds like some type of neurologic issue, perhaps trauma to nerve, dehydration or radiculopathy. First step is to cut back or stop vape use

Muscle cramps: This can range from muscle fatigue if you are a runner.   This usually resolves with a short period of rest 1-2 weeks and changing shoes. 

But if associated with nausea and sweating could indicate dehydration.  If you have abdominal cramps associated you should see your primary physician or goto the emergency room.

What kind of : Steroid use are we talking about? What are the steeds being used for?
Potassium def is a possibility, as is magnesium deficiency aside hydration etc, if this is chronic or persistent you should be evaluated.
