Signs : Signs of a blood clot include calf aching, cramping, swelling, and sometimes pain in the upper leg or even groin.  Pain is usually worse when the leg is hanging down.  The pain is in the soft part of the lower leg.  Chest pain and shortness of breath are signs of a clot that has gone to the lungs.  Risk factors for deep venous thrombosis include oral contraceptives use, blood disorders such as factor c, s, or other blood disorders, family history, obesity, immobilization such as in a cast or a patient at bedrest, and travel.   Diagnosis is made by an ultrasound study (duplex) of the leg.

for the past 2 days i feel a dull sort of aching pain towards the top of my calf muscles an as well as my tricep muscles. ive taken k fenak as well as norflex which helps abit. ive also gained about 3 in the past couple of months. any help on cause?

Muscle strain: You have somehow strained some of the leg muscles. It may take up to 10 weeks to go away . Physical therapy may fasten the healing. See a physical therapist.

No: That is not a side effect of amlodipine. Doses &gt; 5 mg often cause swelling however. The usual way to rule out a side effect is: stop the drug; wait for the index symptom to resolve. Reintroduce the drug. If the side effect promptly returns, they may be related. Most likely you have leg pain of muscular or arthritic origin that coincidentally flared when you began the new medication.

Rule out DVT: The most dangerous thing to rule out (assuming no trauma to the leg) is deep vein thrombosis, or blood clot. This is evaluated by doppler ultrasound.  
Once this is ruled out, then other more common, but non life-threatening musculoskeletal conditions can be evaluated.

Have it checked out: Calf muscle ache by itself is not a problem if it's just from a spasm, but when it involves a numbing sensation, like a paresthesia, or feeling weird, it needs to be checked out, so the cause can be determined. Your medical, family, social, trauma histories will help. So, make an appointment with you doctor to do so, and get peace of mind.

Exercise: Ok in general to walk long distances as long as you build up gradually, provide adequate rest, hydration, and nutrition. Also best to take a day or so off a week to prevent overuse injuries. Do cross training.

Probably not: The masseuse probably bruised you. Watch the bruise over the next few days to make sure it begins to disappear. If you easily bruise, you may want to be evaluated by your doctor as this may be a sign of anemia or other illness. But no need to worry at this time as you have a reason for this bruise.

Check feet & legs: I find many kids have limitations about their ankles & lower legs where limited ankle mobility leads to leg & back issues. The achilles tendon can be tight & may respond to stretching to the point the kids have less complaints.Your pcp, orthopedist or sports medicine person may be able to help.
