Probably lymph node: Do you have any abnormality in the scalp, even a bad case of dandruff? What you described sounds like result of some inflammation in the scalp and enlarged draining lymph node. Pay attention to scalp hygiene and if it does not resolve in 4-6 weeks, or if it becomes painful, or starts draining, see your doctor.

In your case, being that fast growing, I would think that it might be a boil
Usually they settle in few days, and at times it might cause some pain at the site due to pressure build up from the fluid under the skin.
I do not think that you need to go to hospital for that, unless you start feeling unwell
