Increased Pressure: A bulging fontanelle (soft spot on baby's head) is most likely due to increased intracranial pressure.  This may be due to a number of factors, including head bleeds, an intracranial mass, or a defect in cerebral spinal fluid production/flow.  It is a "safety valve" for babies, and it lets physicians know that a work-up needs to be performed quickly to determine the cause.

my 6 month old has a bulging fontanel. all tests (mri, ct scan, bloodwork, etc) have come back negative. what else should i push for. ?

Be patient: Sounds like your physician(s) have aggressively looked for possible causes, specifically, increased spinal fluid.  If your child is developing fine, reaching all of his/her milestones, sometimes the best thing to do is be patient. If anything changes, neurologically or developmentally, let your physician know.

my 7 month old son has had a fever due to an ear infection. his fontanel became slightly swollen, small but enough to notice at an angle. a little bit above the rest of his head. no behavior changes er said not to worry. should i get a second opinion?

See below: Infant's fontanelle (soft spot) should be felt in sitting position.  If fontanelle still feels full or tense, seeking another opinion would be recommended.

Depends on situation: If it bulges when baby is upright, it can mean excess pressure has built up in the head & is a reason to go in & have baby checked. Normally hydrated infants can bulge laying down and or during fussy periods.

Groin pain: A pulled muscle may be most likely. Maybe hernia? If tenderness or swelling, perhaps a minor infection/inflammation anywhere in the leg or foot on that side. You say no unsafe sex, but you listed "unsafe sex" as a topic tag. However, no STD is a likely cause, even if at risk. But get tested for STDs if in doubt. Doesn't sound serious, but if it continues and you remain concerned, see a doctor.

cold since wed + fever around 101. today started coughing fits leaving me breathless and gasping for air.  neck bulging. do i wait it out?

No: This is our flu season, so fever plus cough can be influenza. If there is trouble breathing for any reason, one should see her primary care doctor. If the doctor is not available, one should see a doctor at an urgent care clinic, or go to the local emergency room. Pneumonia and asthma can be very bad in a person with the flu.

Laying down or up: If babies soft spot is full or bulgy laying down it can be normal. If it is bulging while held upright it is a problem. Either way, if the way baby looks bothers you have her seen this afternoon by her pcp or at an urgent care center.

See a doctor ASAP: This sounds quite serious and there should be no delay in seeking medical attention.  There is no way to tell whether this is coming from within the abdominal cavity or the pain is due to skin or facial plane infection, but in any event this needs immediate evaluation and care. See a physician : The soft soft should not be bulging, and this may indicate an infection. Please see your physician. A slight fever may occur after vaccinations, but he may be developing an infection and should be evaluated.
