i have done 3 pregnancy tests, 1 one positive and 2 came out negative. what could this possibly mean? i have been feeling fatigued, nauseas and vomitimng. my next period is due in 6 days. please help, should i go for a scan?

Gyn exam: For a routine exam- undressed and gowned-open in the front.  I check the heart and lungs and then do a breast exam-laying flat and seated-I then palpate the abdomen before placing patient up in stirrups for a visual inspection of the ext genitalia and then exam the cervix and take a sample from cervix for pap smear,   then check the ovaries and uterus with hand in vagina.  The rectal exam is last.

Like a pelvic exam: The doctor will usually use a speculum. Then they will put in a catheter that goes into the cervix. They then inject contrast and take images. You may experience cramping during and after the procedure. You might see a small amount of spotting after the procedure.

Loss of fertility: Vasectomy is a procedure, done under local anesthesia, which interrupts the passage of motile spermatozoa from the fluids released during sexual intercourse.  If all goes well you will be infertile. There is minimal discomfort afterwards. Very rarely there can be infection at the surgical site and very rarely the procedure fails.  Both of these can be treated and the procedure done again.

Bark worse then bite: Most people are extremely anxious about colonoscopy. You should make sure to find a provider that is willing to discuss the procedure with you and make you feel comfortable. If you are choosing sedation, you should be very comfortable during and will likely not remember the test. Most patients complain about the prep tmore then the test. But it's an important test and congratulations for doing it!

Chest pain: Why do you need thoracotomy? Somtimes you get numbness/burning of parts of chestwall moderate recovery.

History and exam: We will ask what's going on. Listen to you. Ask a few questions. Examine you. Usually we have a decent idea of the top two or three possibilities in 1-2 minutes and the rest confirms this. If you have had a scan done being the actual pictures on cd.

Depends: Immediately after thoracotomy, there will be a chest drain that your surgeon will remove when drainage slows and after any air leak from your lung resolves, usually less than a week unless you have bad emphysema.  Then a few weeks to few months of gradually weening of narcotics. Shorter if surgeon did not cut the latissimus and/or serratus muscles, i.e. Muscle-sparing thoracotomy.

Variable: There are many potential "first signs". Weight loss, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, iron deficiency, fatigue, blood in the stool, arthritis, fever. Any of these could be first signs. Its a tricky disease unfortunately.
