i am having a colonoscopy tomorrow at 7:30am.  i am drinking the gatoraid/miralax but i am still not satisfied.  can i eat applesauce or pudding?

Not satisfied.: Most hate the stuff. I would just drink some water. The other stuff may confuse those looking at you colon and you will have to do it again.  May not want to do that.

how many days before a colonoscopy should i stop drinking alcohol? should i stop just during the bowel prep and the day of the procedure?

Am concerned about: anybody who asks about whether they can or cannot drink with some procedure or with drug X, because that is a red flag that drinking alcohol is too important in your life, and that you may have a problem. You have 3 conditions that are worsened (and even caused) by alcohol, erectile dysfunction, a muscle disease and PTSD.  Alcohol is especially bad with PTSD, and makes it hard to treat. Talk to MD

Yes: Drink it all to be sure the prep is good.  The worst would be to do "most" of the prep (which is absolutely no fun) but then get to the colonoscopy and it be inconclusive because it wasn't clear enough to see.  Then you're back at square one, starting over!  Good luck!  No one likes the stuff.

Never heard of it: The doctor who orders colonoscopy would be able to guide you best. Call him or her or their nurse to help you and guide you further.

my husband is prepping for a colonoscopy tomorrow morning, he is drinking the go lyte stuff and is feeling like he is going to puke. any suggestions?

: Drink it a bit more slowly. Is he passing all liquid stool yet? If yes, he is on the right track since some liquid stool can be removed during the procedure. If he begins vomiting, call the GI doctor who is on call for further instruction-if his stool is all liquid, the doctor may advise stopping the prep. Best of luck to both of you!

When its gone: continue the prep till its gone to get the best results.

Yes: Yes so that your colon is clean enough.  If you choose not to, the endoscopist may not be able to see everything' could potentially miss a lesion, and with an inadequate prep, i usually recommend that i repeat the scope much sooner than if i was comfortable i could see everything well. E.G repeat in 5 yrs instead of 10.

Your choice: Colon lavage preps are designed to "wash through" the gut without being absorbed. As such, flavors used are restricted to sugar-free products (sugar promotes water absorption), & should avoid colors that stain the gut (red-colored preps are particularly troublesome when searching for bleeding sites). Commercial flavor choices: cherry, orange, wild berry, lemon-lime, pineapple, or no flavor added.

I wouldn't: If your doctor advised you not to eat the day before then you should not. The bowel prep will clear everything out. Make sure you are meant not to eat for the whole day prior and not just 12 hours before the procedure.

Yes: There are many different mechanical bowel preparations prior to colonoscopy.  Most involve a clear liquid diet the day or two before the procedure.  Usually all liquids you can see through are ok, just not red or purple drinks.
