Heat, drainage: Try focal heat with a very warm, wet washcloth. Do this diligently - 5 times per day for 4 minutes at a time.  If persistent after a few days, then see your ophthalmologist for a drainage procedure.

Late, very hard: After a "stye" has been present for more than 4 or 5 days, a significant amount of scar tissue forms in the cartilage plate of the eyelid.  If it can be treated aggressively in the first 3 days it may go away on its own.  After 1 week the lump of scar will take months to years for the body to remodel. The lump can be removed from inside the lid with a minor office surgery to clear in 2-3 weeks.

Stye: leave it alone, do not try to pop it again.  Use warm compresses on it.  If the area around it starts to redden, if you have pain or visual changes been seen by a doctor.  In the future do not pop styes.

Apply heat: While many styes are infected, antibiotics generally cannot easily get to them.  Heat is very effective.  Try soaking a washcloth in the very warm (not hot) water tap and putting it on the stye for 4 minutes at a time about 5 times per day.  
The frequency is important - 2-3 times will usually not work.  If persistent after a week of this see your ophthalmologist.

Maybe not: Often after one has a stye, scar tissue and a cystic pocket is formed as part of the healing process. It may need to be drained if it doesn't resolve with heat and massage.

Possible: Try treating it with warm compresses 3-4 times per day.  If it does not clear up in 2 weeks, make an appointment with an ophthalmologist.

i had a stye on my eye a month ago. it was quite severe. although the swelling, pain, itching and redness went after a week, i have been left with a hard lump on my lower lid near the corner which is not getting smaller.is this a concern?

Time for optho eval: The stye usually resolved and reduce in size.
If the conservative management does not reduce after 1-2 weeks, you may consider seeing opthalmologist for incision and drainage

can i use bacitracin zinc ointment on a stye on my eye? it is on my eyelid, i have some people saying i can and some saying not to use it.

Not advised : Only ophthalmic bacitracin is ph balanced for the eye. Using topical antibiotic created for the skin near your eye could cause significant stinging and even a corneal abrasion if it were to get into the eye.

Eye infection: Styes are common and usually imply less than perfect eyelid hygiene.  Hot compresses are the single best treatment initially along with vigorous lid cleaning using warm water and terry washcloth.  Compresses should be as hot as tolerable and at least 3-4x/day.  If your eye is also red and draining you may have conjunctivitis; need a topical antibiotic drop.  See your Eye Doctor if not better 48hrs
