Safe or advised ?: Many infants grew up with early (weeks) solid feeds decades ago when families didn't breast feed &amp; made their own formula. Today with breast feeding &amp; balanced formulas we prefer to wait until they sit &amp; the tongue thrust fades ~ 6 mo. BM or formula has all the fluid they need.

Breastfeeding: The milk from both your breasts are equally nutritious there may be a difference in fat content between the two breasts.

Breast : Breast milk provides everything a baby needs in the first 6 months to a year of life.  Babies do not need extra water.  In fact, young babies' kidneys are immature and cannot regulate the blood's sodium levels appropriately if given too much of anything besides breast milk or formula.  Giving too much water can actually lead to seizures.  If your baby is constipated, there are a few things you can do.

1.) give pear or prune juice - 1oz/age in months/day so in your case, no more than 1 oz per day. Not only does prune or pear juice have sugar which can help soften bms, but also has fiber (notice the gritty texture when you drink it?). This does not mean that you should be feeding your baby juice as a part of his regular diet, but it's ok in daily small amounts to treat constipation.

2.) if juice does not work, then you can try a glycerine suppository which you can buy over the counter. Just cut a pea-sized piece of the glycerine and place it in the baby's anus to lubricate the hard stool. This is not meant for daily use, so if you find that your baby needs a suppository in order to have a bm despite dietary changes, discuss with your child's doctor.

3.) do not use mineral oil, laxatives or enemas. These methods are not safe for infants.

4.) finally, if constipation is persistent and not improved with any of the above recommendations, be sure to contact your baby's doctor. There are some very rare underlying disorders such as hirschprung's disease, cystic fibrosis or hypothyroidism that can cause chronic constipation.

Yes.: At 6 months of age, a little breast milk is still better than none, but you should not expect to meet all needs with it. Adding formula is fine; even a little whole cow milk if there are no problems with it.

Not enough info: I'm not sure where the mucus is coming from, so it's impossible to answer your question.  What do you mean by 'round #5'?  Have you taken 5 courses of medicine?  Or you've had 5 episodes of this discharge?  It would be best to talk with your doctor, and describe exactly what's going on.

The : The best ways to treat a cough are:

-drink plenty of fluids 
-keep a glass of water by his bed at night 
-use a humidifier if the air is dry 
-eat a spoonful of honey, or drink apple juice, or chicken broth to help with any "coughing jags" 
-research shows that these methods are as effective as over the counter cough medicines which aren't safe for 2 year olds anyway.

If he experiences any respiratory distress, he needs immediate medical attention. The signs of respiratory distress are: 
-rapid breathing (more than 60 times a minute) 
-grunting or gasping with breathing 
-flaring of the nostrils 
-working hard and using extra muscles to breathe such as sucking in at the neck or under the rib cage 
-blue or dusky coloring 
-change in speech or level of alertness

reasons to call his doctor are: 
- fever 
- unable/refusal to drink 
- concern for dehydration 
- a cough that isn't improving after a week

: You can increase your supply by limiting the duration at each breast to 5 minutes, when baby extracts 80+ 
% of its content (its pushed out during letdown). Then feed at shorter intervals (like 2 hours while awake. In 2-4 days the kid should build a bigger supply and yor feeds will be more. Feeding formula so soon after birth can trigger an involuntary wean. Get help from a breast feed coach.

Many possibilities: Breaks in skin, however minor, can cause infection in that area. Sometimes it may be the result of blocked ducts, but rarely this is a manifestation of infection elsewhere extending through the bloodstream.  If an echocardiogram has been ordered, your doctor is thinking systemic disease spreading. Endocarditis (heart valve infection) is where they are going. Follow up assiduously and get better.
