Chronic urticaria: can be due to an autoimmune disorder, or mostly has no cause, yes it can stay for years, you need to see an allergist/Immunologist or a dermatologist for assessment, meanwhile you can take cetirizine or Loratadine OTC regularly , read the labels carefully, as benadryl won't work after sometime, best wishes
