Sick children sometimes also have some vomiting or diarrhea. Usually, a sick person will be out of school or work for about a week, so it is better to get vaccinated to avoid the sickness.

Otherwise stay at home &amp; rest. Avoid close contact with well people in your home so you won’t make them sick. And drink a lot of water &amp; other clear liquids to prevent dehydration.

Tamiflu (oseltamivir) early on.: Sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). Get strep test/culture if very sore. Congestion – saline nose drops or netti pot. For anti-inflammatory effect & mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.  Hydrate- lots of water/clear broth/ add honey & a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea..  Fever/ pain – Acetaminophen / nsaid’s  rest!

Sick for a week: Nobody really knows when one person stops being contagious with influenza (with or without Tamiflu treatment). One week out from the start of the illness (one can count from the first day of fever, aches, or cough) is safe, unless a person had a more severe illness or still has a lot of cough. In a more severe case, one can wait longer, such as until 3 days after no fever nor excessive cough.

Maybe: Those in most need of testing are short of breath or have painful breathing on minor exertion as these are likely to need hospital care. For others it is a local/situational issue. How active is the virus in your community? Would you be at risk or exposure at a testing site ? I would  contact the local health department for guidance.
