have heard the benefits of slippery elm bark for throat and lung irritation, but i have allergies to elm and tree pollen. should i avoid or ok to take?

Different: The bark of a tree is totally different from pollen from the same and is rarely allergenic.  Whether it works for  your throat or lung is another issue.

Barrett’s.: Being. The traditional doctor that I am, I cannot support attempting to heal the known precancerous condition of Barrett’s esophagus with such means.  Precancerous things have the real potential to become cancerous things.  Barrett’s esophagus requires treatment and surveillance endoscopic evaluations coordinated by a Gastroenterologist.

is it ok to take slippery elm and grapefruit seed extract together or through out the day?

Yes: Most medications should be taken in steps. Take them with at least a 30 minute interval. Get advise from your health store. All the best.

is slippery elm safe with warfarin if taken at a different time. if so how much time should elapse?

Accepted Answer

Yes, 2 hours apart: Slippery elm does not interact with warfarin on a database check.  Slippery elm taken orally produces a thick gelatinous gummy substance that interferes with the absorption of meds.  So it should be taken at least 2 hours before or  2 hours after the warfarin.  More importantly, with warfarin you need to consume the same things every day.  Then your INR is corrected for what you are really doing.

i'm taking powdered slippery elm bark for my diverticulosis. i'm wondering if it has enough soluble fiber so that i don't need psyllium husk too?

Slippery: I am unaware of any source that recommends that slippery elm interferes with kefir or probiotics.

would taking slippery elm as a supplement for an erosive gastritis flare up cause any harm?

Slippery elm: There is no good evidence that slippery Elm helps in any gastrointestinal illness, despite some Internet hype. In addition, it can result in decreased absorption of needed medications. I would avoid it!

i've had troubles getting asleep for the past days. it coincides with starting dgl licorice, pepzin gi, slippery elm. could those be the trigger?

Possibly: Although I have not read of any of these products causing insomnia, everyone reacts differently to certain foods/herbs/medications/supplements.  	Licorice products that still contain the glcyrrhizing and whole licorice taken orally may increase the effects of corticosteroids, cause sodium and water retention and increase blood pressure, so it is "possible" that it could also affect your sleep.

is slippery elm good for stomach pain and diarrhea? it's been two days and i still have these symptoms. what are good meds for it?

Slippery elm: Can help, causes mucous secretion which acts as a coating, but if symptoms persist do not self medicate see a dr to determine the cause of the problem, plain and simple!

upper endoscopy soon. being tested for h.pylori. stopped stomach meds 30 days prior. been taking dgl licorice+slippery elm, will these affect results?
