It's placebo: Hi. Alfalfa is placebo, but probably harmless. Don't neglect to use real medicine for your hypertension and dyslipidemia. Placebos are fine for the "worried well" (of which there are many). However, you have REAL medical problems, and I suggest you stick with drugs shown to be effective and safe. Good luck.

Good stuff...: One cup of alfalfa sprouts is only 8 calories. It has 0.6 grams of dietary fiber. 
Alfalfa sprouts contain l-cavanine which could potentially cause a person with lupus to flare. There have been reports of incidents of contamination of alfalfa sprouts w e.Coli, listeria & salmonella. It may reduce effectiveness of blood thinning agents & estrogenic activity might impact hormone therapies.

Alfalfa sprouts: Alfalfa sprouts are high in protein and easily digestible, making them a good food.  I am not aware of any problems with eating them, as long as they are fresh and have not spoiled.

Contamination: There have been problems with  salmonella and listeria food poisoning, unfortunately.  The same moist, warm conditions you need to grow sprouts can be similarly luscious for bacteria to grow too.  You can grow your own at home, but be very careful to keep things clean . .

Seed unsafe longterm: The seeds are unsafe longterm and may cause reactions similar to the autoimmune disease lupus. It may also cause the skin to become sensitive to the sun. Autoimmune diseases might flare up from taking alfalfa.Hormone sensitive conditons as breast , uterine, ovarian, cancer and endometriosis might worsen.

No, but...: ...Alfalfa contains isoflavones which have a low and variable degree of estrogen like activity in animal models.  One would have to consume a lot of alfalfa to have much of an effect, and there are side effects associated with this supplement which would need to be seriously considered first.

TheJoyOfSoyForTheBoy: Yes,the male cows fed them: they grow bigger.As for you, if you're worried about the estrogen effects of soy isoflavones,I wouldn't.You'd have to eat a cow's worth every day and even then, it's doubrful you'd soon be buying lipstick.Humans metabolize them efficiently and there aren't many legit studies that demonstrate much of a problem.Eat in moderation- and let me know if your bra size changes.

Unproved, but...: Alfalfa has been touted to contain numerous important nutrients benefitting overall health with prostate issues included, but its long-term values yet remains to be seen. So, you may try it for 3-6 months and see if money allows. Remember anything happens to use is always not just a process of lifelong making but a results from multiple factors, among them aging is the chief culprit.
