Start with PT: For tendinitis, anti-inflammatory medicines will help with the pain.  But the real treatment is to stretch and strengthen the tendon.  This is best done with formal physical therapy.  Also, sometimes hip muscle weakness can contribute to knee tendinitis. Activity like running is generally ok as long as the pain is minimal.  Start slow and build slowly.

Patellar tendonitis: Should be ok, assuming you have pain free full range of motion. Progress slowly as tolerated & check with orthopedic surgeon.

Nothing good!!: That would not be recommended as you'll achieve nothing good but can introduce infection into your knee joint. Please don't do it. The tendonitis is an inflammatory condition and not an infection, but you might convert it into infected knee joint.

Yes, but why?: If you have patelor tendinitis, there is a reason. It can be mechanical or inflammatory. You need to determine the cause! biofreeze will not work as well ad an nsaid!

Little different : Patella tendinitis refers to inflammation of the patella tendon below the patella (kneecap) from overuse.  Retro patellar pain refers to overuse pain underneath the patella where it articulate with the femur.

1-2 months: Treatment consists of physical therapy, relative rest (rest from any activities that cause pain), and anti-inflammatory meds (ibuprofen, alleve).  A must is to spend time stretching your quads and hamstrings 15" per day.  With these treatments, healing usually occurs in 4-6 weeks.
