No: Smoking on welbutrin willnot cause heart palpitations. If you've never had these before i would recommend that you get checked out by your family doctor. Sometimes wellbutrin (bupropion) could cause palpitations but i don't want to make that assumption in your case. You will need a cardiac workup most likely.

Dose titration: In consultation with your doctor, you may need to play with the dose of the medication to see if you can find a suitable amount that would not cause side effects, but help with the mood. Palpitations are a know side effect of this medication.

No way to tell: I will recommend that you stop taking wellbutrin (bupropion) sr and call your physician  who prescribed  it and inform him/her about  the heart palpitations. Mitral valve prolapse is  not the first in my list of differential diagnosis.

BIG question?: What is your caffeine intake?  This side effect may occur with wellbutrin (bupropion) BUT you are much more likely to have problems with this medication if you have significant caffeine intake. I have some of my patients taper down their caffeine use before they begin wellbutrin (bupropion).  Using propranolol together with fluoxetine can cause irregularities in heartbeats.
