i have large weiss ring floaters in each eye. is there a procedure that can safely remove or break them up.

Weiss floaters: Weiss floaters are nearly always associated with posterior vitreous detachment. These floaters can be treated by laser ablation although the number of op docs who can do this is a bit restricted. You need a good dilated exam because PVD often precedes retinal detachment.

can a weiss ring floater cause fog?

Accepted Answer

No: A floater is a shadow created by something floating inside the eye.  A weiss ring may retain its ring shape or break or twist, but can only create a shadow of its shape.  If you see a fog, you may be seeing shadows created by other floaters or even floating blood.  If this is new, you need to see your eye md asap.

It's safest option: Floaters that become intolerable can be treated with basically two options.  The safest is the laser treatment procedure you describe.  Safest by far,IMO.  The option is an open vitrectomy.

how long does a weiss ring take to go away?  why doesn't it float away like the other little floaters that you get.  thank you. i had it checked by my ophthalmologist, so i don't have any tears. it is in the center of my visual field and is driving me nut

Unfortunately, : Unfortunately, the weiss ring floater does not go away. However, patients sometimes adapt and will stop seeing the floater. Some patients will continue to notice the floater.

what causes eye floaters, metal taste, jaw cracking and left ear ringing?

TMJ CRACKING: You need to have your eyes examined by an ophthalmologist(eye doctor) and your ears by an otolaryngologist(ear doctor) to make sure there are no problems from them.The jaw cracking is from the jaw cartilage being out of place and when you open the head of the jaw bone pops onto the cartilage causing the cracking sound.Since the jaw joint is in front of the ear it will cause the ringing in the ears.

had std testing (blood draw) done for hiv which was "non reactive".  i have eye floaters and lately white rings/ coated tongue. what is going on?

Vitreous detachment: Floaters are usually secondary to vitreous detachment from the retina.  This is a normal aging process and it can start as early as teens in a highly nearsighted person to into the 60's.  But when you first notice it u need to see an eye md to make sure there are no retinal tears.  Your mouth lesions may be candida and from a lot of stress and not necessarily HIV related.  See your primary md.

Some need surgery: In most cases, eye floaters don't require treatment. Learning to cope with your floaters may take time.
In rare cases, your eye floaters may impair your vision and need treatment. Laser treatment  and floater surgical removal.

my teen says he have clear/ shadowy floaters will they go away? p.s they are not completely black and they do not have a rental tear?

: Regular eye examinations are recommended. If there is a sudden change in vision, please see the Emergency room. The floaters should be assessed by an Opthalmologist.  Watch for redness, pain and use sunglasses during daylight hours.

Floaters:not too bad: Although they are a nuisance and bad in that way, floaters are little more than an annoyance for most people.   They result from natural changes that occur in the vitreous gel of the eye.   Most important is that new floaters or flashes deserve to be looked at by an eye specialist as well.

how come i get floaters when looking at the sky?

It's common: Floaters can be seen when looking at a light uniform background, like the sky or snow. The gel present in our from birth, commonly develops little opacities that are suspended and move around with eye movements. When  light enters the eye and one is looking at a blank background, shadows of these opacities are seen as floaters. Gradual onset in both eyes is benign. Sudden onset in 1 eye may not be.
