Diarrhea: By eating a bland diet , nothing greasy or fried. No milk or milk products or juice.Eat lots of rice and bananas as well.As yourdiarrea subsides the color of your stool should change.

can problems in the colon develop over 2 years or go undetected in a colonoscopy? had colonoscopies yearly from 2018-2021, all of which were clear, usually have constipation problems, but 1 recent episode of watery orange diarrhea has me worried?

: There are no guarantees that a polyp or a colon cancer couldn't develop since your colonoscopy, but in my experience an occasional episode of diarrhea is rarely caused by colon cancer or a polyp. I would be more concerned if you passed black, mahogany or frankly bloody stools. I expect that your gastroenterologist will reassure you. Orange diarrhea is not considered bloody&amp; should be transient

Diarrhea: Diarrhea can range from very mild to severe.  It can vary in color and character. For severe diarrhea and associated symptoms, i would recommend going to either the emergency room or urgent care clinic.  Worrisome diarrhea generally would include symptoms such as:  high fever, unrelenting diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, blood or mucous in stool, dehydration, dizziness, or accompanied vomiting.

Probiotics: If symptoms has otherwise subsided, can consider a trial of probiotics (kefir that can be found in most supermarket would be fine or you can find fancier brands in Whole Food or natural health stores - try to get the ones in refrigerated section as they tend to contain higher live bacterial counts then the capsules kept at room temperature). Normal GI flora was disturbed by the gastroenteritis.

Your symptoms: are probably not related to your previous cholecystectomy, but to a new problem.  If symptoms persist, you need to see a doctor to make sure that you have nothing serious.

Accepted Answer

Many: Ibs, inflamatory bowel disease, infections, side effects of meds especially some meds like antibiotics  and some otc supplements. Just to name a few. You need labs , stool sample and probably a colonoscopy.

i have watery loose stools for over a month now. could i have pancreatic tumor? i had a colonoscopy 2 years ago and was normal. i am 27.

Probably not: Pancreatic disorders may cause loose stool.  They are not the most common cause.   In the office, I would suggest a probiotic or yogurt daily as well as citrucel daily.  You may also have a food allergy or sensitivity, consider keeping a food diary to track triggers.  Medications frequently cause diarrhea- not sure you take any.  Stool evaluation at your doctor's office may also help.

Maybe: Without knowing more about you, it's impossible to say. But persistent diarrhea as you prescribe warrants an evaluation by a doctor. Good luck.

Colitis: This may be irritable bowel syndrome,gluten intolerance or intestinal infection. A stool sample should be sent for culture for pathogens as well as ova and parasites. An antispasmodic medication like bentyl (dicyclomine) can be prescribed .before meals if you have irritable bowel syndrome. A gastroenterologist is best qualified to evaluate and treat you if symptoms persist.
