is it possible to inject xanax (alprazolam) if you crush up the pills and extract the drug using water? i want to find out before i do it. i am a recreational drug user.

Injecting : Injecting xanax (alprazolam) mixed with water can kill you. Injecting a mixture of medication and water that is not sterilized can cause a life threating infection in your body. Also you are at risk for injecting an air embolism which can travel through your vessels into your brain and heart and cause instant death. Medications meant for oral use are never safe for injection.

Not if it is sterile: Since out blood is 99+%h20, the water in the bloodstream is not the concern- how it got in there, and how sterile it is would be the worry! we give IV fluids to patients on a daily basis to help them get well and feel better. The volume of the water might also be a problem, but again, not the water itself.

Harmful: Infusion of plain water intravenously, even if it's sterile, can potentially cause destruction of your red blood cells(hemolysis), although it would have to be a larger volume to cause severe hemolysis. The destroyed red blood cells cause damage to kidney tubules. Don't mess with your iv line!!

Why do you ask?: Water without an appropriate osmotic solute will hemolyze the nearby red blood cells. The resulting release of potassium can kill you. Perhaps you can clarify.

It is dangerous: it is very dangerous,because the insertion of non sterile material into the circulation,and the possibility of air mixed with that as well can cause death

Infection: It is possible that your friend has an infection from either an unclean needle or from the water.  There is no guarantee that the water used is clean.  If your friend has fever, chills, headache please have her go to see her pediatrician or provider.

: Rabies vaccines are injected intramuscularly, not intradermally, and your worries are not well supported.  It's not clear whether or not  alcohol affects immune response to rabies vaccine adversely.

Maybe Pain?: Pallor sounds more like a symptom of presyncope or almost passing out.  Drinking and sitting down likely helped. Your symptoms do not sound like an allergy reaction which would cause hives and potentially breathing problems. All the best. Giving yourself an injection is brave.
