The : The johns hopkins medical alert letter states that the quotes from johns hopkins in popular email letters are falsely attributed.

According to rolf halden, phd, pe, assistant professor in the department of environmental health sciences and the center for water and health at the johns hopkins bloomberg school of public health, we should be more concerned with the quality of the water we drink than the containers water comes from.  However, some water bottles contain phthalates, and these can leach into the water at a rate related to how hot the water gets.  There is some current understanding that the chemicals released into water by phthalates can act like the hormone estrogen in the body, causing a variety of impacts.

The best thing seems to not heat up foods/drinks in plastic containers unless they were designed for this.  It may in future become clear that we should limit our exposure to water from plastic bottles; at this time most people are limiting exposure of babies and young children more than adults.

Some may: If the labels on the bottles aren't clear about it, switch to steel bottles for drinking water. Sports equipment stores sell them. Drinking water alone isn't enough to lose weight. As you know,reducing calorie intake and exercise also are needed.

Yes.: Yes.  I do this with plastic bottles i carry on my bike all the time.  However, clean immediately after drinkoing it.  It is much easier to clean and reuse.

Of course: If you are applying heat treatment to your back with a hot water bottle, lying on it will put the heat where you want it.  Be mindful that the cap is screwed on tight so the bottle doesn't leak.

Should be fine : The odds are close to 100% that it passed in your stool within a day or two of your swallowing it; your body certainly cannot digest or absorb it and whatever we ingest that we don't digest comes out the other end, so no need to worry...
