sorry if this a a stupid question- can wasps release venom into food? i have an anaphylactic reaction to wasp stings and a wasp has somehow got trapped in my fridge overnight. is it safe to eat the food?

Wasp Sting: Remove stinger by scraping along edge of skin with credit card.  Clean area with soap &amp; warm water.  Apply ice in 10 min. increments; alternating 10 on &amp; 10 off.   You can take tylenol, (acetaminophen) Aspirin or Motrin for pain or Benadryl for swelling.  Make a paste of 2 parts baking soda &amp; 1 part water &amp; apply.   Or you can apply a meat tenderizer poultice to the area. Throat, airway, mouth swelling? Call 911!

Benedryl: Oral benedryl to reduce itching, nsaids (motrin) to reduce pain/swelling) and topical neosporin to prevent local skin infection (esp from scratching).

Wasp bite: Wasp bites reaction could last days due to the venom reaction in the skin.  Those more sensitive to bites may benefit from oral antihistamines and corticosteroids under the supervision of a dermatologist

The force is with ya: No. Vemon testing is only appropriate once one or multiple stings have lead to a systematic reaction. The only questionable exception is the person with large local reactions. In vivo or invitro testing cannot prognosticate whether a person will become allergic. Statistically the odd are with you and against anaphylaxis.

Try a bag of cold peas.  You can take meds like tylenol, (acetaminophen) Aspirin or Motrin for pain or Benadryl for swelling.  Make a paste of 2 parts baking soda ; 1 part water ; apply.  By the way, usually bees leave a stinger.

Release of : Histamines. Enzymes in wasp venom break down cell walls ; degranulate mast cells which in turn leads to release of histamin resulting in symptims like itching, swelling ; pain.

OUCH!: Localized pain, swelling, itching and redness of the site. Or there can be continued swelling with nausea / vomiting. A severe reaction can lead to difficulty breathing, swelling of mouth, tongue, lips or throat, hives, etc.

Breathing problems: Biggest worry with any kind of allergic reaction is breathing problems. If there is swelling of the face, lips, or eyes then go to the er or doctor immediately. If wheezing or labored breathing or gasping for air then call 911/go to er.
However most stings just cause an local reaction at the site of the sting - swelling, pain, redness, warmth. Treat with cold compress, tylenol, (acetaminophen) and Benadryl cream.

It depends.: The patient involved here would need to secure a material safety data sheet for the particular product. The container may have a list of ingredients   often listed on the can, but the material safety data sheet is better.
