Allergic response: Call 911 for difficulty breathing, wheezing, tight throat, chest discomfort, difficulty swallowing, coughing, confusion, slurred speech  or swelling of tongue, lips or throat. If you have an epi-pen - use it. Remove stinger by scraping along edge of skin with a credit card.  Clean with soap &amp; warm water.  Apply a paste of 2 parts baking soda &amp; 1 part water.  OR:   Mix water &amp; activated charcoal -

Protein in venom: A person who is allergic to stinging insects has  developed an allergy to a protein in the insect venom. These proteins have been well described and include mellitin, hyaluronidase, phospholipase, etc.  Why this happens to some people is unclear.  Thankfully treatment with venom allergy injections is very successful.

See below: Most commonly there is redness, swelling, and warmth at the bite site. The area may also be itchy. And, the size of the involved area tends to increase during the first one to two days. Some people can have very significant swelling, and/or develop an anaphylactic reaction with trouble breathing.

my dad is deathly allergic to bees and wasps but i've never been stung by either. if don't want to find out the hard way. also are allergies genetic? could i be deathly allergic to bee stings too?

Possibly: Severe allergy to a single thing such as bee stings is not necessarily familial/genetic, but certain families DO have the tendency to be hypersensitive to things (leading to asthma, allergies and eczema).  Blood tests are available to see if you also have this tendency towards severe reactions.  Ask you doctor about testing for hymenoptera allergies, to be on the safe side.

Wasp sting: If you are allergic to a wasp sting and you have an anaphylactic reaction to the sting you could die   that is why they have the bee sting epi pens that people can carry if they are allergic   it is very rare to die from a wasp sting, however.

Maybe nothing: Unless you are allergic to it, often a sting from a wasp will only cause some imediate local pain. Infection arising from a simple sting is quite rare. So, if it is not hurting/swelling, do nothing. If some redness, try some calamide/caladryl lotion. If really swollen, red, painful after 2-3 days, consult doc. Good luck.

Depends: Most people who are stung by bees just get a red, swollen itchy "bump" in the area...Wshing it right away..Using ice...Applying cortisone cream and taking an antihistamine usually provides relief. 
If you have bee sting allergy you can have more serious symptoms(hives all over, asthma, trouble breathing etc..) if you have these  see an allergist asap.

Use EpiPEN, (epinephrine) go to ER: You may have no problem with this, but if you have an allergy or you think you do, my advice is to get to an er asap.  They will give you Epinephrine so you don't go into anaphylactic shock, which can close your airway and kill you.  After this episode is over, you might want to see your doctor and get an epipen, (epinephrine) which is a shot of Epinephrine you can give yourself quick if this happens again.

Probably Not: Most wasp stings are painful, but not dangerous. However, some people are allergic and such reactions (hives, trouble breathing) can be life-threatening. Also, multiple stings can be dangerous, particularly in very small children or the elderly. Otherwise most stings result in only local symptoms of pain & redness.  Bacterial infections are uncommon.
