A 10 year old who was fine hours earlier should be able to sleep until morning without eating or drinking, if she throws up her food. If a child looks quite sickly or has other worrisome symptoms, a doctor should evaluate at the ER.

Stomach illnesses can be very short sometimes. He might develop some diarrhea in the next day or so. Make sure he stays hydrated and let him eat if he's hungry.

Gastroenteritis.: This sounds like gastroenteritis, which generally is either food-borne or viral in origin.  If your symptoms are improving, then it might be OK to wait on it and see if you continue to improve.  That being said, if your symptoms persist beyond five days in total, you should see a doctor.  Gastroenteritis generally lasts 3-5 days.
