Interesting: In general, the only way you would feel your heart had stopped, would be that you were resusitated and later told it had stopped!  curiously though, retching and vomitting are associated with increased activity of the vagus nerve which causes the heart rate to slow down.  Some people are more sensitive to this.  Must be frightening to experience!

Several reasons  . .: Several possible reasons for your nausea and your headaches, so please go see your doctor for further evaluation. HOWEVER, the one thing that is NOT abnormal is your heart rate of 180. In fact, at the age of 23, your maximal predictable heart rate is actually above 190. It is POSSIBLE that all of your symptoms may simply be related to exercising at a heart rate too close to your max.

Call PCP: and he will prescribed Zofran ( ondansetron) ) or , less likely, Tigan ( trimethobenxanmide) or Compazine ( prochlorperazinen ). I suggest following a clear fluid diet as follows: No solid food for 24-48hrs
Force fluids: Electrolytes rich 8-10 8 oz. glasses of Powerade, G, Vitamin water, Pedialyte and sugar water.
Avoid ALL citrus, alcohol and NSAIDS (Advil. Aspirin or Aleve)
Call physician for protracted vomiting.
Jell-O  made with Powerade, Vitamin Water, or G-OK
After 48 hrs.: soft bland diet: boiled chicken, dried tuna, mashed potatoes.
Must be passing urine every 2-3 hours, if not, increase fluid intake.

Vomiting: I am sorry for your loss. Yes it is sop to stop oral meds when vomiting. It is useless to give oral meds in such a situation because they would be immediately vomited. It sounds like your mother was in the last stages of her illness.

Pericarditis: A little fluid around the heart can be normal, but if it is seen it is likely abnormal. The most common cause of pericardial fluid is a viral infection, or other causes of inflammation which can be some disease like lupus, or medications. Injury to the heart can also cause fluid. The nausea may relate to the cause but also may not. Be seen if get sicker!

But young people are more prone to anxiety and stress which can produce all types of symptoms like shortness of breath because anxiety leads to hyperventilation which causes symptoms like dizziness and nausea.
I would advice you to practice relaxation and breathing exercises(yogic breathing),take slow deep breaths

Gastroenteritis: As a diabetic you need to be concerned  about dehydration, electroyte imbalance and Insulin requirements. Make an appointment with your doctor to make sure you dont derail.
