Vitamins: Vitamin d comes from the sun, and fortified milk and other foods. Iceland had a high incidence of rickets years ago due to poor sunlight. B12 and folate are obtained through foods, B12 from meat and other animal proteins. You can search the list. B12 may be problematic if you can't absorb it in your diet- pernicious anemia is a disease that prevents absorption. Poor nutrition -> low b12/folate.

Hard to say: When RBC are large it can be due to B12 or Folate (folic acid) deficiencies.   Sometimes alcohol will fool the automated systems and of course there are other causes.   It is worth checking out even if you are not anemic per se.

Folate (folic acid) dieficiency: Would be uncommon in an 18 yo.  A B12 level between 200 and 400 can be difficult to interpret.  Under 200 clearly low and over 400 likely ok.  In between is a grey area.

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Healthy mom, baby: Developing fetus will get the nutrients it needs from mom. It gets calcium from mom's blood (via mom's diet, or her bones-doesn't care). Need B12  and folate (folic acid) for normal neurological development, to prevent some congenital abn; needs iron for cell growth and development. Mom needs supplement to prevent deficiencies (increased needs due to fetal development).

But it won't hurt to take folate (folic acid);if you're among the 1/3 of people with problems converting Folic Acid to it's active form you should take l-5-mthf.
