In brief, adequate fluid, protein calories, fat, carbohydrate (macronutrients), as well as essential vitamins and minerals (we don't make them, need them for growth, development, repair) which need to come from diet. Varies!: There is too great a difference between the sexes, pregnancy, the young and old, and those with certain illnesses, and for those even on certain drugs. Their is a new field called nutrogenomics, which has identified vast differences between vitamin needs in humans. The most common needs: 8 glasses of water; 1g of protein per 2 lbs of body weight; and 20-24 grams of fiber for adults.

None: There is no one super food. For good health, please have a mixed diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, low fat milk products; restrict intake of saturated fats; no tobacco; no more than one drink of alcohol/day and exercise 30 minutes/day.

Probably: Along with tort liability for a false label, there's also laws against false labels that are enforced often enough to make these reliable. Soda pop is primarily marketing, with sugar or artificial sweetener, carbonated water, flavoring, maybe caffeine, dyes and preservatives. Sometimes they can hit the spot though there's nothing especially either nutritious or risky here.

Nutritional genomics: It is the study of how nutrition and genetic makeup work together. This incredibly interesting field covers many types of interactions: single gene mutations where a nutrient cannot be metabolized; genetic complexes that put a person at risk for increased chances of heart disease; and food substances that can cause cancer. These are just a few examples of this emerging field.
