Needs biospy: Small nodules can be cancer, but they would need to be biopsied. Many times, the nodules are just scars and not cancer. If you find nodules on a cat scan of your chest, depending on the size, they need to be followed to make sure they don't grow or look ominous enough to warrant a biopsy. What to do about nodules also depends on your risk for lung cancer, i.e., were/are you a smoker, etc.

Other examinations of lung biopsies are performed to examine for evidence of infection or conditions which might cause lung nodules. It can, however: exposure to mold and lung nodules may not be related. You obviously have seen a doctor to know that you have lung nodules. It would be prudent to consult a pulmonary medicine doctor.

Small density.: A 1 cm nodule is a small density. Most likely this is benign finding but additional info about appearance and history/ physical exam are important. Are you a smoker? Depends: A lung nodule is a lesion in the lung less than 3 cm in diameter. A larger lesion is often called a mass. Typically a lesion needs to be at least 1 cm before it can be seen. Ct scans can identify much smaller lesions. 60% of nodules are benign but that number is higher in non smokers. Depending on the location of the nodule most can be biopsies with needles or minimally invasive scope (vats).

Rarely: In people without history of cancer, 5 mm or less in diameter lung nodules have a <1%  chance of being malignant.  Lung nodules are generally followed on ct scan for 2 years to be sure they do not grow in size.  Those that grow can be biopsied by ct guidance, bronchoscopy, or surgery. Check for other causes (exposure to tb,  rheumotologic).
