V bigeminy: Bigeminy can occur in pathologic and in otherwise normal conditions. It can be seen with biochemical abnormalities and with structural and physiologic abnormalities. In short, there is no single cause.

i have been told that i have atrial and ventricular bigeminy. can they occur together or always separate?

Accepted Answer

Atrial means the: top part of your heart. Ventricular means the bottom part of your heart. Bigeminy means every other beat is early. Since the electrical activity of the atrium is separated from the ventricle by the AV node it is potentially possible to have both atrial and ventricular bigeminy simultaneously. I would imagine it to be more likely that these rhythms would occur independently.

can cardiac stimulants like atropine be given in ventricular bigeminy?

Accepted Answer

No: In the absence of any other evidence of heart disease, particularly coronary or ischemic heart disease, ventricular bigeminy is a benign rhythm that usually causes neither symptoms nor problems, and often comes and goes.  There is generally no reason to treat it.  If your doctor has concern, a holter monitor can be applied for 24 hours to see if there are any truly worrisome arrhythmias.

See below.: Best treatment is evaluation to make sure you do not have underlying structural or physiologic heart disease ( sounds like that has already been done) then to leave you alone if no abnormality is detected.  Medications can suppress the extra beats but do not improve survival.

Depends: The underlying cause for the rythm needs to be worked up and treated. If all correctable conditions are fixed., then eps may be indicated and ablation if  reasonable. A defibrillator if poor heart function. Otherwise amio is reasonable but has its issues. It can affect the lungs, liver and thyroid to mention a few. Close monitoring is reccomended.

i measure my bp at home & it is averaging low at 89/58.i also have "frequent premature ventricular complexes in a pattern of bigeminy" according to my ecg. should i ask my gp for beta blockers or is there another medicine that can help low bp & pvcs?

Symptoms first: Before asking for specific drugs let your doc weigh in based on your symptoms specifically and current known conditions and treatment. Once a specific medical condition is diagnosed, in your case and so far findings are not correlated with a specific diagnosis, starting treatment may become easier.

Early heart beats: Pvcs, are contractions of the large pumping chambers of your heart that occur before the top half of the heart signals the bottom half it is time to contract. Some people feel them, some don't. They can be harmless or they can be the first warning of an impending heart attack. If you have them, you need to be evaluated by your doc esp if you have risk factors, high bp,  high chol, smoker, fam hx, .

Common: They are common, never normal altho typically benign. And yes, they can go undetected many times.

No: Premature ventricular contractions or PVCs for short are extra beats from the lower chambers of the heart - the ventricles. Symptoms include skip beats and/or palpitations.  In your age group, these beats originate from the outflow tracks.  Anxiety can exacerbate the symptoms but are not the cause.

: I wouldn't think so unless you are highly distressed, stressed or annoyed by your postnasal drip symptoms.
