Of course: Generally speaking when a person checks their sugar at home, all that is used is venous blood.  To my knowledge there is no indication in the field of medicine to use any other kind of blood for checking the blood sugar.  As a matter of simple fact, about the only time we routinely use arterial blood for anything in medicine is checking a test called the blood gas, usually in the er or icu.

Small difference: CBG is combined arterio-venous blood so the blood sugar from capillaries is a little higher because arteriole blood is more nutrient rich, bringing nutrients to tissues. Venous blood has already been through the capillary system where nutrients/metabolites are "picked up and dropped off. " venous blood has less glucose in it because it is blood carrying away much of what was already metabolized.

i had my blood taken today for a cbc. i looked at the vial and the blood was light red. im confused as i thought venous blood was deoxygenated and was supposed to be dark. any explaination for this?

Difference: The difference between venous and arterial blood is very subtle. The venous blood is slightly darker and less "shinny".
Venous blood is not supposed to be really dark or purple.

Not exactly: Capillaries are situated between the arteries and veins and capillary blood does have characteristics half between the arterial and venous blood.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Venous blood shows blood urea nitrogen &amp; creatinine levels (kidney function) which can help assess hydration status - those are the most helpful venous blood tests
