There : Must be a misunderstanding of terminology. 
Veins, and I have no idea what you may call veins, do not hurt. Even when there is a blood clot in them it is the surrounding inflamed tissue(s) that hurt and not the vein itself. In the leg bulging veins may hurt but is distension of the skin that is painful. So I do not have a satisfying response for u. Sorry!

Yes, : Yes, you should report this to your physician right away. If associated with arm swelling and or color changes of the skin you should seek care urgently. Your description is not specific enough to be more precise. A condition known as Paget schroeder can occur commonly in young muscular men which leads to venous narrowing and ultimately venous clot. This has been termed effort vein thrombosis and is seen in the dominant upper extremity related to muscular and ligamentous attachments at the first rib and clavicle junction. However clearly there is not enough information to make a diagnosis. If determined by your physician, an ultrasound may be the next step.

Get it CHECKED OUT: If pain in a limb is affecting your ability to use that arm - it definitely could be nerve related or other things.  The only way to know for sure is to start with your family doc, who will do a thorough history and physical, probably with some basic xrays of the neck and shoulder/arm and possibly refer for neuro testing or to see an orthopedist or neurologist.

Is it the vein?: It could be the vein, or it could be the structures surrounding the vein, like tendon or muscle.  Is the skin over the vein red, warm, painful?  If so, we think of superficial thrombophlebitis or just phlebitis.  It can happen with trauma like needle sticks or after putting in an iv.

Multiple reasons: Veins return blood back to the heart and  can carry a large volume of blood.  Depending on many factors including levels of hydration,  genetics, outside temperature and even physical activity, the size of the veins will vary.  Another important function of the veins is to help control body temperature and this too will affect vein size.  Also with aging, veins enlarge as tissue volume decreases.

This is a little: difficult to sort out without talking with you in person. It would be very unusual for vein problems to be causing pain in your arm. Much more likely the muscle underneath is sore but what you can see is the veins. The pain most likely if from a strain/overuse: lifting, carrying, playing arm-related sports, etc. Put an ice bag (of peas!) over the sore spot; talk to your Doctor if persists:)

See a : Doctor. You need to be examined to make sure you are not getting an infection and that no glass is left in your arm.
