im 23 with a varicocele
in my latest scrotal u/s it measures 2.3 mm at rest, 3.2 mm with valsalva
i wanna know if i can do heavy weight lifting?

Accepted Answer

If you want you can: Unlike hernia , heavy work will not harm you in varicocele ,  Wear a good supportive underwear like 'Jack Straps'  If it bothers you get it fixed (surgery ) a simple out patient surgery.

i have some discomfort on my varicocele(left grade 2, right grade 1)when i lift weights above 20 kg.i want to gym but what workouts need to be avoided?

Testicular pain: May be due to the vericocele with more pressure distending the vein with lifting. Blood from left kidney is being forced down the gonadal vein into the scrotum. Answer: Don't lift weight or have an "Internal spermatic vein ligation" to stop the blood flowing down in the opposite  direction. Testicle will drain thru other channels.

is there a bodybuilder who have varicocele? what if i do weight training, what will be the risk i would experience? and is it harmful?

Accepted Answer

Here are some...: Any physical activities which may increase the pressure inside abdominal cavity such as weight-lifting, will sequentially increase the pressure inside varicocele. potentially leading to worsening of varicocele, but such speculated adverse effect is still unclear; so I would proceed with the training and see. If varicocele is considered with male infertility, varicocele correction may be required.

will going to the gym(weight lifting and treadmill running) worsen my left side varicocele? or is it better to wait until i get it corrected by surgery to start weight lifting?

: No it will not worsen your varicocele. I suggest you wear a good scrotal support

after lifting weights and sitting down i noticed a slight stinging feeling, bottom of left testicle. it subsided after 10 minutes. i have a varicocele in that side too. could this be something to worry about or pose risk to hormone/sperm production?

: No it will not. You strained yourself. Try wearing a scrotal support. Good luck

i have had a varicocele surgery about 11 days ago. am i allowed to do upper body exercises such as push-ups and weighted bicep curls or will they place too much tension on the testicles? if not, when will i be able to do so? is masturbation ok?

: If open surgery then pl wait till 4-6 weeks for the area to heal well. If Laparoscopic then you can go ahead

i had surgey for inguinal hernia and varicocele 5 months ago, not laparoscopic.a few days ago i started light training in the gym, cycling, running, lifting weights 15 kg)and now a slight pain appeared at the site of the operation. i need to stop?

: You might have strained the area. If there is no bulge there then reduce your training intensity a bit, use local heat anf it should be better in a week or so. if not- pl get checked out. Good luck

having nafld, in addition to weight loss and physical exercising, i read that drip coffee may have a protective effect against liver fibrosis. but it may affect men fertility negatively(p.s:already have varicocele). should i drink 2,3 cups of coffee?

Risk benefit: It is imperative that you lose weight and exercise to reverse the pathology. Liver cirrhosis will affect your fertility a whole lot more than coffee.

Usually not...: These are usually benign in nature; the only difficulty arises with size...They need to be reduced when they become too large; please let your doctor examine it and establish a baseline; he/she can then follow it to determine when a urologist needs to be involved.

Surgery: If the varicocele is troublesome, then your doctor may recommend open surgery, laproscopic surgery, or injecting coils or an irritating solution into testicular veins to scar them off.  See
