is breastfeeding safe if you have varicella?

NO IT IS NOT SAFE: No it is not safe as varicella is very contagious and any contact with the lesions will cause the baby to be infected.
Varicella Vaccine is given to babies after the age of 1 year.Most babies stop breast feeding at 1 year 
But if the infant has been immunised and still breast feeding than it my be safe to breast feed

Hard to say: It is clearly contraindicated when mom is breastfeeding an infant with compromised immunity.However; there are no studies on normal infants to clarify the question for them. Exclusion for at least the first 6 mo is probably the best approach, if not until age 1 year when we usually give the vaccine to infants.

: Best treatment to minimize scarring is to keep the healing spots moist. Applying vaseline and covering the areas will keep the healing skin moist and lubricated to minimize scarring. Do not apply to breast tissue as this can be ingested.

Several weeks: The maternal transmitted immunity only is protective for several weeks. A 7 month old child is not protected. If he has been exposed to his Dad he may get chickenpox. This would happen up to 3 weeks after the exposure. It is unlikely an early immunization would help. All the best and I hope he escapes the illness.

Not dangerous: A 3 months old gets enough immunoglobulins from the mother during pregnancy to protect till about age 6 months,if the mother had chicken pox as a child that means she has protective antibodies in her system and were transferred to the baby,rare at this age to have chicken pox,vaccination is available,but given at age 1, immunoglobulins are indicated for immune deficient patients, ur baby isn&#x27;t

Yes but not from BF: Your baby is born with your antibodies to illnesses you have had in the past.  These antibodies remain for up to six months, offering some protection.  After that, the maternal antibodies are no longer present and the best way to continue to protect hour baby is to have all recommended vaccines.  If you had a flu vaccine while pregnant, this also applies to flu.

? passive ?: The passive immunity a baby receives is in the form of IGG passed through the placenta prior to birth. This probably lasts about 3 months. The secretory IGA in breast milk has little to no effect on chickenpox immunity.

First day...: Fever, upper respiratory symptoms.  By the second day you start to see rash, which rapidly progresses from a few bumps to many, many bumps.  Within the next 24 hours you have sores in three stages: bumps, fluid filled bumps called vesicles, and scabs.  Intensely itchy and highly contagious.   No longer contagious when all the sores are scabs and no new sores are coming.

Varicella vaccine: Yes. There is a sure way of determining one's immunity level - a varicella titer done by a blood test. Adults need 2 doses, given one month apart. I often recommend non-immune parents to get the vaccine simultaneously when their one-year-old gets it or better still, at least a month or two before their child turns one. In addition, other non-immune family members should also be vaccinated.
