Many diseases: The current ones are: hepatitis b, hepatitis a, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, whooping cough, rotavirus, haemophilus influenza type b, pneumococcal diseases, measles, mumps, german measles, chicken pox, menigococcus and influenza.  There also is an antibody for RSV for some babies.

But it is !!: Mmr if given in infancy and childhood will generally give a person lifelong immunity. In some cases, it does not and the vaccine can be repeated in adulthood. The original MMR was given once around 12-15 months for about 23 years when they realized a few were not protected by college age. After about 1990 we began giving a booster & that seemed to fix the issue.

Why ever?: There has been years of research done to combine these into one safe and effective vaccine and cut the discomfort involved with separate vaccines. They are not available separately.I view those who try to string out the shots based on the musings of a playboy bunny or well meaning docs as misguided. No baby should undergo extra pain over a myth.

Yes: Diphtheria is a serious disease that still occurs in other countries (meaning it is one plane ride away from us). In america, kids get vaccinated against diphtheria, and adults every 10 years with their tetanus-diphtheria boosters. So, we don't see the disease here. However, if the vaccine is stopped, the disease will be right back.

Interesting question: The number of deaths among unimmunized infants from pertussis has climbed from zero in the 1990's, to more than 30 last year.The deaths from millions of doses of the vaccine in the same period= zero.The pattern is similar for other vaccines, with less fatalities from those diseases. The risk benefit ratio shows vaccines to be the better choice, however, you will never convince some of that fact.

Diseases: Vaccinations for your baby are generally recommended to help prevent serious and deadly illnesses/diseases.  The success of immunizations cannot be exaggerated enough--they are safe and the researchers who tried to suggest otherwise have been proven and admitted to being fraudulent.
