Bump in the throat: How long it has been there? Do you have fever? If it has been there for more than 7-10 days you should see your doctor. It could be strep throat or mononucleosis.

Sometimes it can also be reaction to irritants like smoke inhalation or other chemicals, or reaction to food or drinks, but would still need thorough throat exam and treatment

Sounds like it's now large enough that it's toughing the back of your tongue and giving you a gagging feeling.If chewing ice chips doesn't help, best to then have it seen by a doctor before it gets worse. There are ways to decrease that swelling
