i was on an antibiotic for a uti& it showed positive for meth. i had them send it in& it was negative for meth they said it was probably from the antibiotics. now im on another medication for uti (metronidazole)& its showing positive for meth again?

: Urine culture or urinalysis cannot detect methamphetamines or any other drugs in the urine. The doctor must request drug testing on the sample, otherwise it would not be done. Antibiotics to not cause positive tests for meth or any other drug. Discuss with the doctor or clinic that sent your urine specimen to the lab. Good luck.

No: Metronidazole is used for anaerobic infections such as Clostridium difficile or Gardnerella. So primarily used for certain GI infections and Vaginal infections. Not used much for UTI.

Metronidazole: You can take it, but it will probably be a worthless exercise. This antibiotic is primarily effective against obligate anaerobic bacteria, which seldom if ever cause lower urinary tract infections.  It is effective against some conditions like trichomoniasis, Cl. difficile colitis, amoebiasis, etc., but would not recommend it for UTI. If you are treating yourself recommend you see a doctor.

Sounds like: a  vaginal infection.  Testing with your doctor is recommended, for vaginitis.

UTI Treatment: In my experience I usually take a sample of urine and do an analysis of the urine. If I suspect an infection, or in the patient has symptoms of an infection, I send the urine to the lab for a culture which will tell me if bacteria grow and what type of bacteria.  Also, this will tell me what antibiotic is the best to treat the infection.Metronidazole is not usually used for UTI.

Ineffective: They are safe taken either apart or together, but ineffective. Neither will treat either yeast infection or UTI. Are you sure about the diagnosis? Under a doctor&#x27;s care? If self diagnosed and treated, stop the drugs and see a doctor ASAP.

What's the ?: If you meant whether metronidazole made your BCP less effective, the answer is likely not. You should not be drinking alcohol when taking metronidazole however since severe side effects may occur.

May have wrong meds: Check with your clinic about your urine culture result. You may need a different antibiotic if your infection is due to a bacterium not susceptible to the drugs you are on now.
