78 year old male has ostomy due to cancer. was doing irrigation thru stoma for 10+ years. now get uti after irrigation. what is the connection between doing a colon irrigation thru a stoma and getting a urinary infection?

: I see no connection between irrigating the GI Tract and a UTI unless a person has developed a fistula linking the two systems. If this is the case you should discuss it with your treatment team. Long term complications can be a possibility if it is confirmed and not fixed.

No: Unrelated. Need to consult with GI dr or surgeon if you pass blood or black tarry stool perrectum. Also if there has bee an appreciable change in texture of bowel movements. This would be related to ruling out bowel tumor & not to recurrent utis.

Not with polyps: Bladder irritation and colonic fistula ( connection to bladder and colon ) usually not due to polyps  but  due to diverticulitis which is a benign disease . Don't worry wait until tests are complete ..

Yeast always present: Yeast is present and every individual in the colon. At your age there are certain types of bacteria present in the vaginal region with the ph of the vaginal mucosa being approximately five. That low ph prevents overgrowth of more common bacteria that can infect the urinary track.  Common antibiotics may eliminate that normal vaginal bacteria and lead to overgrowth of yeast in the vaginal region.

i have had a colon resection, bladder sling, cystocele, and rectocele in the past 8 years. recurring uti and urine that smells like feces. pain?

if a cystoscopy clear, can you still have a fistula.  have spc and ileostomy, no large colon. constant uti's.  nerve damage to bladder.

Unlikely: Neurogenic bladder poses one to chronic uti.  The angle of the urethra also plays a role.  Pyridium (phenazopyridine) may be necessary to preclude further risks of UTI and pyleonephritis.  Further, colonoscopy or barium enema and ct abdomen/pelvis w/ both oral & IV contrast will provide more information regarding a potential fistula.

can chemo for colon cancer lead to painful urination (blood tests ruled out uti)?  and advice to treat the pain?

Best is : To discuss with your oncologist regarding any known side effects of the chemo drugs being used. Pain could be related to your prior colon surgery also so a meeting with the surgeon would be reasonable as well. With no more information it is difficult to give you any more detailed answer.

Bloating: It could be from the irritable bowel syndrome itself. 
Physical exam and some imaging studies might help to rule out other possibilities

LLQ  / ammenorrhea: Would check HCG, may be pregnancy or ectopic associated with infection UTI or vaginal infection or PID ( infection in tubes)- if it were colon would have diarrhea or issue with  bowel movement  would  go to doctor or ER today.
