Usually.: Ureteroscopic procedures are performed in the operating room, with general or spinal anesthesia. With general, you are asleep. This is the preferred method, especially with stones high up in the kidney where breathing must be controlled. In spinal anesthesia you are numb from the waist down but  awake. This is usually reserved for those with issues that prevent full anesthesia.

Probably: It is hard to define perhaps, but one would know it when one sees it (to paraphrase an old saying). At some point a very large ureteral stone (rare) may be best managed by performing an operation to cut the stone from the ureter. Almost all ureteral stones are manageable via ureteroscope but it is the very rare case where the more invasive option may be advisable. This is a judgement call.

Soon: You can resume sexual activity as soon as you feel comfortable and are pain free. That should be next day for most people. You may get some colicky pain if large fragments of stone are passing. Your partner will understand that you won't feel let sex if and when you are in pain.

Anytime: You may resume "sex or mast" anytime you want to. There is no contra-indication to doing so while having a stent (although you may not feel up to it so to speak.

Here are some...: The recommendation provided after the reported procedures is commonly given in attempting and assuming to ease voiding symptoms from local irritation to usually already inflamed bladder neck and prostate urethra. Is that really necessary for professional reasons, which could be in doubt or for political correctness, which probably plays major role in such advice? So, Ask Doc for mutual agreement..

: Drink plenty of water and post operative course will depend how the surgery goes. Always have the surgeon doing the procedure explain these in detail and to your satisfaction prior to having anything done. Good luck

good if stones come: After the manipulation with the ureteroscope and placement of the stent, whatever sediments that are sometimes not visible on ct scan or what ever the stone that got broken from the big nonobstructing one, they  come out&  it is good. Your urologist should be informed about the stones still coming out as based on that the need for rpt imaging, scopy, keeping the stent for more period will be decided.

Use Laser: Some types of stones do not fracture well with shockwave lithotripsy.  If the stone needs to be treated then either ureteroscopy (scope from bladder up ureter) with laser can be used or a scope through the back directly into the kidney  can be used.  The latter procedure is for larger stones, usually over 2cm, and is called percutaneous nephrolithotomy (pcnl).

Accepted Answer

Depends: Stones fragments may never completely pass on their own.

Better chance of passing if an easily fragmented stone.

Better chance if located within the upper portion of the kidney or within the ureter.

Less chance if located in the lower portion of the kidney.
