Depends: It depends on how deep the injury is and how dark your skin color is. Skin discoloration/darkening after an injury or inflammatory event can take as short as a week to as long as over a year to resolve. The worse the injury &amp; the darker the skin, the higher the potential for prolonged discoloration. Keeping it protected from the sun and applying an ointment-based moisturizer (e.g. Vaseline) helps.

Accepted Answer

No STD: No STD is a likely cause of these symptoms. The only remote possibility might be syphilis, which can cause a wide variety of skin problems, which might on rare occasions affect the lips. But even this seems extremely unlikely. You and your doctor need to look into non-STD explanations for this.

Scab: You have to quit picking at it.  Perhaps a bandage over it would keep you from picking it.

Skin: It may be skin irritation due to allergies, dryness, sun damaged skin can also present like that. It will be better to see it to be able to diagnose it. Keep the skin clean and moisturized.

Your skin is sensitive to some of the ingredients in the toothpaste, and you've now got a minor chemical reaction.Keep the area clean and it should heal just fine. In the future save the toothpaste for your teeth and use products on your face that are formulated for that purpose. Feel better soon...

Common, Not Serious: Post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) is common in patients of color after any inflammatory trauma (cut, burn, surgery).  This commonly fades with time, but can take months.  Avoid intense sun exposure until cleared.  Prescription topical hydroquinone (HQ) creams can sometimes speed resolution.  A dermatologist or facial plastic surgeon can hook you up.

This can result in thickening of the skin and cause fine lines.

: The lay term "triangle of death" refers to an area of the face that has venous blood flow that leads into the brain. Infection that enters that venous blood can travel the route and infect the brain substance triggering a fatal infection. Such chance infections are rare with simple cosmetic manipulation of the facial skin. It would be a concern when manipulating local infected tissue.

That's: a bit unusual since waxing generally removes only a superficial layer of skin/hair. If you mean that it BURNED your lip and that burn resulted in a scar you would best be served by a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon/Cosmetologist
