Exam: Don't know what the "thing" is that's causing your problem.  You have to be examined to be diagnosed.  Once cause has been determined, a decision can be made as to whether observation or definitive treatment is indicated.

Ranula: Probably a blocked minor salivary gland duct. Next time it swells up see your Dentist or preferably an Oral Surgeon for examination, differential diagnosis, and appropriate treatment.

A minor infection on the tongue, tooth abscess  or a swollen salivary gland is not uncommon and can cause pain and irritation. The proper diagnosis is the key to a successful treatment. See your dentist for evaluation and diagnosis.

Get it checked.: There can be many reasons for swelling under the tongue. It could be as simple as a sensitivity to something you eat or drank, from a dry mouth, or something more. If it has not subsided within the next 24 hours you should be seen by a dentist or physician to fully evaluate the area.

Push fluids!: This was poor advice and is a reminder you can't trust everything you read online! What you are experiencing is what would be expected even with diluted bleach. If you can swallow, keep drinking water or milk. If you can't swallow or symptoms worsen, go to Emergency Room immediately. You may need a nasogastric tube and IV fluids. Obviously, don't try this again!  Best wishes!

bit my tongue in my sleep, may have had a partial seizure during the night, not sure. tongue is swollen and sore. what can i do to help heal my tongue?

It will heal soon: You can take a couple of tylenols (acetaminophen) as needed(6 hourly). This will relieve the soreness . Also use mouth rinses with lukewarm water to keep it clean . The swelling will go away and it should begin healing in 24-48 hours. Such cuts on the  tongue are completely healed in 4-5 days.

Aphthous ulcer: Likely an aphthous ulcer (canker sore). Self limited. Treat with OTC meds, saline rinse, avoid spicy foods. Should resolve within a week. If not, see oral surgeon.

Salivary stone: Swelling under your tongue may be due to a distal salivary gland stone. Sialolithiasis (salivary gland stones) is the most common disease of the salivary glands. Almost half of the submandibular stones lie in the distal third of the duct (located under the anterior tongue) and are amenable to simple surgical release through an incision (cut) directly onto the stone.  I suggest seeing an ent.
