Breathable dressing : Direct from the web:  a hydrocolloid dressing (trade names include duoderm, granuflex, and 3m tegaderm hydrocolloid) is an opaque dressing. A hydrocolloid dressing is biodegradeable, non breathable and adheres to the skin so no separate taping is needed.

Medical supervision: Should be required for use of hydrocolloid dressing & thus dr  or health care prodessional treating underlying problem should demonstrate and advise. Is used for wounds, pressure ulcers, acne, superficial burns etc. But advice on it's use is, in my opinion, beyond the scope healthtap.

Need more help: First, if, in fact it is infected, you need to treat the infection with something. Hydrocolloid bandage is for healing open wounds It does work well, but not while there is an active infection going on. Once you treat the infection, it should heal up nicely.

is a hydrocolloid bandaid safe to use on small knife cut? (stopped bleeding after ~20 min of pressure and elevation, pretty sure don't need stitches.)

Small cut: 29 year old lady with a small cut with a knife on unknown body location.You should also make sure that your tetanus immunization is up to date. If it is a truly small and clean wound, you can use a butterfly bandage to make sure the edges of the wound are approximated, brought together. Watch for signs of infection &amp; see MD if needed.

i have impetigo on my chin. i have been treating it with bactroban for 2 days. when can i put hydrocolloid babdage on? it's dry and cracking w/ ooze.

Not now: Do not put any bandage on impetigo. Rinse with water and apply some more mupirocin.

Yes.: Can do so, but should only be required until the epithelium is fully healed.

More time: A small (50-100mg) dose of minocycline will help you but will need to continue many months or years.

i have an active cold sore and while sleeping, i drooled on my hand - some ran into the corner of my eye. my sore has been covered with a hydrocolloid patch so it's not openly weeping. how concerned should i be that the virus will spread to my eye?

: Not concerned at all. Once someone has herpes more than a few months, auto-inoculation (spread of the virus to new body areas) almost never occurs; the immune system prevents it. Your oral herpes probably will never go anywhere else. Don't worry about it.

i bought hydrocolloid patches for my feet blisters and it says i can only use them under doctor supervision.why is it bad to use them while pregant?

Generic message: There is no reason why you cannot apply these patches externally to blisters on your feet.  This is likely just a generic statement trying to absolve them of any risk in the pregnancy should something happen related to your feet.  I cannot imagine what the problem would be, but i will also state that you should check with your doctor who knows you and your history much better!
