Probably not: While there are no increased risks for birth defects for thyroid disorders, it would be most important to have your thyroid disorder controlled.  Uncontrolled over or under active thyroid metabolic problems can have an impact on the metabolism of your baby  -- perhaps leading to improper development of the thyroid gland in utero.  This may result in metabolic, cardiac and hormonal problems.

Yes: Pregnancy is well known to increase back problems  it may be as simple as more strain on the low back because of the increased weigh and because of the change in posture. Many of the ligaments around the uterus are attached to the anterior lumbar spine thus putting additional stress on it.  There are some women who develop herniated discs with radiating pain down the leg(s) but this is unusual.
