Pelvic pain: Pelvic pain is complex as there are several organs in the pelvis. The ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, bladder, appendix, intestines, colon and rectum can all be the source. Pelvic pain requires and examination to help organize the evaluation.

Mittelschmerz?: If you are midcycle, a common cause of crampy pain on one side is ovulation - when the egg is released, a small amount of fluid or blood can leak into the pelvis /lower abdomen and cause a crampy pain. This should go away in 1-2 days. Continued or worsening pain should be evaluated. If you might be pregnant, then crampy pain is worrisome and needs to be evaluated-take a pregnancy test if concerned.

Please see details: There are multiple possibilities.  Some women  overtime regularly get cramps prior to their periods even without a disease process.  Endometriosis commonly causes premenstrual cramps.  Your morning-after pill might have interfered with your normal cycles which may be causing the pain.  In addition, since you're sexually active, infections can also be responsible including those that are sexually transmitted.  Persistent pain needs to be evaluated by a gynecologist.

Vaginitis: It is not uncommon with hormone changes just prior to menstrual period to develop a vaginal infection.  This can be either of the two most common non-STD infections: yeast vaginitis or bacterial vaginosis.  Both of these are best evaluated and treated by a primary care or gyn provider but you can also try an over the counter yeast treatment if available and see if symptoms get better.

Take a test: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections and hormonal changes can cause spotting.   There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit. Your tubes are tied and your test is negative. You are not pregnant
