Not really: Other than beer, specifically, diet has been shown to be less of a trigger than we used to think for acute gouty arthritis.

Turkey bacon: Turkey bacon has less fat on average compared to pork bacon. The fat is saturated fat in both animals.  Saturated fats are not healthy fats.

Hydration and fiber: Constipation can frequently be relieved with increased dietary fiber and drinking plenty of water.  One of the colon's primary jobs is to reabsorb water from the stool before it is excreted.  If you are not drinking enough water the stool can become dry and hard, leading to constipation.  Fruits and vegetables are a good source of dietary fiber.

No: But cold weather can potentially cause gouty crystal proliferation. That would be around distal joints like your big toe.

Accepted Answer

Gout!: My personal doc is Clinoril (sulindac). It has less GI side effects than the historically used Colchicine (taken until symptoms resolve or GI upset). As a secondary, I am happy using Prednisone for those sensitive to nsaids.

Gout medications: A diagnosis of gout is necessary, blood tests, maybe joint aspiration and examination of joint fluid. If there is gout , treatment for gout usually involves medications. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Colchicine  for acute attacks, Allopurinol (Zyloprim), Febuxostat (Uloric), Lesinurad(Zurampic), Pegloticase (Krystexxa). See your doc-

Yes: But way less likely than other joints such as feet or knees or ankles or elbows.

Tripe is protein.: Menudo, of course, is a soup that contains tripe, which is a source of protein.  You can have it, as it probably doesn't have that much protein in general, as opposed to eating a steak or large piece of fish.  So I would think that having menudo on occasion would be fine with a history of gout.  You don't have to avoid protein, just limit overall.

Yes: Gout is related to uric acid. Alcohol and meats can raise uric acid levels. Ben franklin, a famous gout sufferer realized this and attributed his gout to the rich foods that he liked.
