Force fluids: Electrolytes rich 8-10 8 oz. glasses of Powerade, G, Vitamin water, Pedialyte and sugar water.
Avoid ALL citrus, alcohol and NSAIDS (Advil. Aspirin or Aleve)
Call physician for protracted vomiting.
Jell-O  made with Powerade, Vitamin Water, or G-OK
After 48 hrs.: soft bland diet: boiled chicken, dried tuna, mashed potato

Indications for Tums (calcium carbonate) is Tums (calcium carbonate) indigestion, heart burn &amp; calcium deficiency.  Indications for Pepto Bismol is indigestion, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea &amp; upset stomach.

Fairly safe: Both are reasonably safe for short term use. However, long term use can lead to problems. Both work primarily by coating the stomach to help acid effects. Alos prolonged use of peptobismol can cause discoloration of the intestinal tract along with elevated levels of bismuth.

Virus: It's ok to take peptobismol but be aware that it may make your stools black. For persistent nausea, drink flat ginger ale and try eating lightly with soups and crackers like saltines.

Gastritis or GERD: I suspect you may have either gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) or gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease or acid reflux).  Diet (caffeine, chocolate, alcohol), tobacco, medications (ibuprofen for example), and infections (h. Pylori) can all be possible causes for the inflammation.  I would suggest you see your primary care doctor to discuss symptoms and possible treatment options.
