Valve replacement: The surgery replaces the valve with either a mechanical or animal tissue valve. This is done on a heart lung machine. The valve takes the place of the damaged valve and the patient lives their life with a new disease 'artificial valve' with its own set of problems. The obstruction or valve leak of the diseased valve is corrected by the artificial valve. Sometimes blood thinners are needed.

Not really: The only treatment for significant aortic insufficiency is aortic valve replacement.  That said many patients do well and live long lives without surgery if the valve leakage is mild or moderate in degree.

Need more info: At  75 yrs really common to see some plaque (atherosclerosis) in aorta. Small plaques need no treatment,but if severe enough to cause symptoms it could benefit from direct treatment. If more than minor, with or without symptoms, NEVER smoke, treat BP &amp; diabetes if needed, consider daily aspirin and statins, exercise, all to slow progress of atherosclerosis in aorta and throughout the body.

Depends: If there are symptoms such as arterial hypertension, surgery is done. The narrowed part of the aorta can be removed and the ends reconnected, if a lot has to be removed a graft can be put into place. The aorta can also be dilated with a balloon. Treatment is conservative for patients who show no symptoms.

Depends: It depends on the type of aortic valve problem, insufficiency or stenosis. Both have different degress (mild, moderate, severe) and treatment is different in each category.  They may have different etiologies also which will require different approaches to treatment as well.  Severe forms of either malady will eventually need aortic valve replacement.
