See below: Sciatic pain from the lower back is caused by nerves being compressed as they leave the lower spine.  Sometimes physical therapy can be helpful.  Injections of anti inflammatories into the area of compression can also help.  When these treatments are not helpful or if the compression is causing numbness or weakness along with pain, surgery may be indicated to free the nerve.

Pain from what?: You don't mention what is causing the pain. Have you seen a dentist for a diagnosis and treatment or are you just taking pain medication on your own? Either see a dentist for a proper diagnosis and treatment or call the dentist who is currently treating you.  We can't diagnose your problem and suggest treatment, especially pain medication without actually seeing you in our office.

Time: Usually it will improve with anti-inflammatories, rest, and physical therapy.  If it persists yo can consider an epidural injection and rarely surgery is needed.

Time/dosage: Finding the right dose takes time.  The drug has limited efficacy for nerve pain.  When it works its good.  Often it does not help.  Worth  trying.

No Best Treatment: Sciatica has many causes. Generally if you are not experiencing muscle weakness or change in bowel or bladder function, it will subside on its own within 6 months.Local measures such as ice, pt treatments such as muscle stim and massage may help. Nsaid's like Ibuprofen or Aleve (naproxen) may provide relief. Stronger meds like muscle relaxants or snri's also may be helpful.

First the cause: The term "sciatica" reflects sciatic nerve irritation associated with spinal nerve root irritation, pelvic neuroplexus pathology, or by a compressing effect (e.g. Pyriformis syndrome).  Specific treatment depends on the cause. As a general rule nsaids & certain anti-convulsants are used. Physical therapy will be more effective if directed at the cause. Injections can help. Surgery may be indicated.
