Other home remedies include cool mist humidifier in your bedroom. There was an excellent study that showed a teaspoon of honey before bedtime suppressed a cough better than dextromethrophan. If your symptoms dont improve call your doctor.

It could be due to bronchospasm, gerd, post-nasal drip, bronchitis, etc. All these diagnoses have completely different treatments so you should see your doc for eval for any cough lasting more than a week or 2. If it is due to a virus, it should run its course within that time. There are many effective prescription treatments.
