i hate patulous eustachian tube, meaning it opens from time to time. it's very unpleasant and it can last. how can you efficiently close eustachian tube, without laying down, or make it not open for prolonged time?is there cure?or at least treatment?

: The eustachian tube helps move mucus created in the middle ear membranes to the throat. It also allows air to enter to maintain the equal pressure across the ear drum that permits normal function/hearing. You don't want it to remain closed or the system will not maintain normal function. The cure of any bothersome would depend on the cause(s) that are making this bothersome

Ear tubes: If simple medical managment has failed, ear tubes can easily bypass the eustachian tube and alleviate the pressure.  Mot commonly placed in children under a brief anesthetic, tubes can be placed in adults in the office. Pain: Having mucous or infection in an ear tube may cause pain during pressure changes of ascending and descending. This could also potentially cause the infection to migrate to the ear drums which could pop. Best to get checked by your doctor to ensure the ear drums are healthy for the flight. Cheers.

Pain: It may be very painful to fly with your Eustachian tube(s) blocked.  Try Flonase nasal spray (now sold over-the-counter).  Use 2 sprays in each nostril twice a day and again right before your flight.  Next time, start using the Flonase 7-10 days before a scheduled flight.

Surgery: This is a fairly rare problem but if the symptoms truly bother you, surgery is available.  Exploring the middle ear and partially obstructing the opening of the Eustachian tube as it enters the middle ear space with fascia or muscle tissue can be successful.  Consult an ENT surgeon.

Middle Ear: The eustachian tube is our drainage (& pressure equalizer) for our middle ear,  obstructed by excessive mucous production (colds, allergy, smoke exposure), thick mucous due to infection or antihistamines, blowing your nose hard/refilling your ear with mucous, & lymphoid/adenoid tissue obstructing drainage. In children, the tube is narrow & horizontal & plugs more easily.

Yes, and: A blocked eustachian tube can come from other head/neck issues, including a cold, allergy, sinusitis-all can cause head/neck pain!
